** BRAND NEW and fun Paws-itive Event! **
Previously hosted at other venues, Paws-itive is now offering this fun sport at our location!
Who is the trainer?
Leila from Stonehedge Kennel.
What is a ‘Barn Hunt’?
Barn Hunt is an exciting, fun sport for you and your dog! This is a sport that requires no prior training or physical requirement.
In a Barn Hunt, there are plastic tubes hidden in a simple maze of straw bales containing live rates. The dog must find the tube containing the rat and alert the handler. In addition to finding the rat(s) other requirements include the dog must climb on top of a bale with all four feet and go through a tunnel in a specified time.
What can you expect?
In this 3 hour comprehensive Barn Hunt Introduction, Leila will start with a demonstration by experienced ratters. The goal is focused on understanding the sport & safety procedures while also making sure your dog is having fun! The cost of this workshop is $80 per team payable in advance, 15 dogs maximum.
Next will be the Rat Introduction. The rats will be visible to both people & dogs from their crate to build prey drive & understand the rat scent.
Now it’s your turn!
Leila will guide the dog/handler team through the course. You will practice the Climb (ramp), straight tunnel and scenting a rat . Food rewards will be used in specially built tubes associated with the rat to help dogs understand the game as we escalate to the real search.
