Agility

Looking for a way to stimulate your dog’s brain? Or maybe you just want to see what your dog is capable of doing.
In either case, agility classes are the perfect fit!

This class introduces owners and their dogs to the sport of Dog Agility. No prior experience required! Agility is a great way to stimulate your dog’s mind and body while having fun. In this class, dogs will start to learn how to perform the agility obstacles and follow directions, while people will learn the basics on how to “handle” their dogs through the agility course. Get started on the right “paw” and come bond with your dog while both his/her brain and body get a workout!
This class is for teams who have completed an introductory course to agility and want to continue learning agility. In this class, dogs will continue learning how to perform the obstacles and handlers will learn more techniques for telling their dogs where to go. We will start sequencing obstacles together in order to get the dogs and handlers moving in flow as a team!

** For graduates of Beginners II **

We will increase number of obstacles in sequences to build towards running full courses. Dog’s obstacle performances will be refined so that they truly know how to perform each obstacle on their own. Handlers will learn new commands and techniques to successfully navigate their dogs through sequences.

Specialty

Our specialty courses are for those who wish to expand their dog’s knowledge, prep them for a competition, or get them trained for being a therapy dog.

Barn Hunt is an exciting, fun sport for you and your dog! This is a sport that requires no prior training or physical requirement.

In a Barn Hunt, there are plastic tubes hidden in a simple maze of straw bales containing live rates. The dog must find the tube containing the rat and alert the handler.  In addition to finding  the rat(s), other requirements include the dog must climb on top of a bale with all four feet and go through a tunnel in a specified time.

This class is for gentle, social dogs who enjoy being touched AND know basic commands (sit, down, stay, come & leash manners). Owners must have completed our Basic Obedience I or comparable (instructor approved), to be eligible. The class will reinforce basic commands with distractions, introduce new commands (leave it, wait, go visit), and new skills needed to prepare for Pet Therapy. We will review the diverse therapy options such as; Read to Dogs, Special Needs Programs, After School Programs, Veteran Support, Mental Health & Senior Facilities and Hospitals. Special equipment will be introduced along with safe dog-handling training for health care facilities. In addition, as a perfect preparation for therapy work, dog and handler teams will be prepared for the AKC Canine Good Citizen test – an official AKC Title designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home, in the community and in the presence of other dogs.

** This class is 4 weeks long **

The AKC Canine Good Citizen Program is designed to test both purebred and mixed bred dogs for their behavior in the home, in public, and in the presence of other dogs. The 10 steps of the test are practiced the first three weeks of the course with guidance and instruction from your instructor. The final week of the course is the CGC Test. Dogs that pass will receive a CGC medallion from Paws-itive Experience Pet Services. A great way to show off your dog’s good manners & earn AKC recognition!
